People eat all sorts of things. There’s incredible diversity around the world in terms of favoured food. What is weird to one, is a delicacy to another.

1.Aborted Fetuses

This one is truly disturbing. There are images circulating around the internet which show Chinese people eating soup containing the whole bodies of aborted fetuses. Apparently the meat is prepared with care to ensure that the human appearance is preserved.

Some people go to the extent of eating human fetuses to satisfy their weird gastronomic cravings.

2.Dog Penis

I’m not trying to be obscene here. Dog penis is thought to be medicinal in China. There are restaurants in Beijing that serve dog penises along with the penises of other animals. Enough said!

People seem to savour the private parts of a variety of animals. Bulls and dogs are often eaten, every part of the body included!

3.Cobras

Yes, you read right! People actually eat one of the world’s most venomous snakes, the deadly Cobra, for breakfast! And where do they do that? In Indonesia of course! Apparently 1000 snakes are caught in East and West Java weekly, and sold for 1 dollar and 15 cents a snake for their meat. I wonder if there are even any Cobras left in Java at this rate!

Oh yes, even Cobras aren't spared our intrusive taste buds!

4.Fertilized Duck Egg

It’s called ‘Baalut’ in the Philippines, and it’s quite a delicacy there. The duck’s egg is almost entirely fertilized for a few weeks till the chick’s feathers have grown, and then boiled and eaten. Apparently they are extremely crunchy and delicious, but not for me, not at the moment atleast, please!

The deadly Puffer fish is a costly and sometimes fatal delicacy in Japan. It’s called ‘Fugu’. Anyone who wishes to cook it must be certified, and remove the poisonous parts of course. Could you imagine that humans are capable of turning against a creature that shares over 98% of our DNA? Apparently, we are. The burgeoning bush meat trade in the rainforests of central Africa is emptying out the region of its buzzing animal life. Even Chimpanzees are not spared.

7.Rotten Cheese with Maggots
Rotten cheese with jumping maggots is considered a rare delicacy on the Italian island of Sardinia.

It’s called ‘Casu marzu’ and it’s quite a popular dish in the Italian island of Sardinia. It is made from sheep milk.

When the milk is made into cheese, the larvae of the Cheese fly are introduced into the mix. The cheese passes the stage of fermentation and almost decomposes.

Some people choose to clear the maggots before eating, while others simply eat the cheese with the maggots in them. Sometimes the maggots jump out of the cheese while it’s being eaten.

This dish is said to leave an aftertaste that lasts for hours, and sure enough, why not? It’s after all, rotten!

Dogs are our best friends and cozy up to us, and some of us eat them.

10.Rats

Rats are quite a delicacy in Vietnam, and are freely available in markets throughout the country. They are roasted more often than made into soup.Fried rat, anyone?
